Sustainability & safeguards

Low-carbon value must also be responsible value.

Crostar’s platform is built around evidence, safeguards and verifiable operating controls—not untested environmental claims.

Responsible biofuel principles

Safeguards begin before planting or collection.

Earlier biofuel initiatives often attached multiple promises to single crops without sufficient evidence. Crostar separates agronomic, social, processing and market questions and validates each before scaling.

  • No land grabbing or opaque land acquisition.
  • No automatic claim that dry or “marginal” land is unused.
  • No displacement of food production without an evidence-based land-use assessment.
  • No expansion of dedicated crops before realistic yield and farmer-economics evidence.
  • No product or greenhouse-gas claim before measurement and verification.
  • No unsafe use of toxic seed cake or other hazardous co-products.

Core safeguards

Environmental, social and commercial controls.

01

Food and land

Prioritise waste, co-products and integrated farming; assess land history, tenure, food-system effects and indirect land-use risk.

02

Farmer and labour

Clear terms, no forced or child labour, safe work, fair grading, grievance channels and transparent payment processes.

03

Biodiversity and soil

Regenerative practices, erosion control, crop diversity, soil cover and avoidance of high-biodiversity or protected areas.

04

Waste and chemicals

Controlled UCO handling, spill prevention, licensed chemical use, safe storage, waste classification and documented disposal.

05

Health and safety

Risk assessments, PPE, fire controls, emergency response, equipment guarding, safe methanol and catalyst handling where applicable.

06

Claims integrity

No “carbon neutral”, “sustainable” or certification claim unless the relevant boundary, methodology, evidence and verification support it.

Climate resilience

Regeneration must improve real farming systems.

Crostar and Labl Farms will assess crops within diversified systems that can include food crops, trees, soil cover, water conservation and locally appropriate regenerative practices.

Oilseeds are not treated as a substitute for food security. Crop choices must fit local conditions, farm economics, labour capacity, water availability and market demand.

Quality and certification readiness

Build the evidence stack before seeking a label.

Legal compliance

Company, energy, environmental, occupational safety, agriculture, transport and county requirements.

Product specifications

Documented sampling, laboratory methods, test results, release decisions and customer requirements.

Chain of custody

Point of origin, lot identity, storage, movement, conversion, mass balance and buyer documentation.

Certification pathway

Readiness for recognised schemes such as ISCC where markets justify the cost and all requirements can be met.

Circular used-oil collection

Recover a waste stream without creating new risks.

Hotels, restaurants, institutions, caterers and other lawful generators can participate through supplier agreements, approved containers, collection schedules, contamination controls and point-of-origin records.

Collection incentives will not encourage unsafe storage, theft, adulteration or diversion of edible oil. Crostar accepts only approved material that meets defined criteria.

What CEOS records

  • Generator identity and location
  • Container and collection history
  • Volume, date and transporter
  • Sampling and contamination results
  • Batch, storage and processing link
  • Corrective action and audit trail

Responsible partnership

Bring evidence, technology or market demand to the platform.

Crostar seeks credible research, certification, finance, county, supplier and buyer partners committed to measurable performance.
